This article was posted in a religion debate group on CafeMom. I am reposting what was posted in that group, and my reply to that post... While the whole thing is rather disturbing to me, the parts highlighted in red are particularly amusing.
I found this article over at CBN. The article has since been taken down, but I'm including a link to the cached article.
The Danger of Celebrating Halloween
By Kimberly Daniels
Guest Writer
CBN.com - Halloween-October 31-is considered a holiday in the United States. In fact, it rivals Christmas with regard to how widely celebrated it is. Stores that sell only Halloween-related paraphernalia open up a few months before the day and close shortly after it ends. But is Halloween a holiday that Christians should be observing?
The word "holiday" means "holy day." But there is nothing holy about Halloween. The root word of Halloween is "hallow," which means "holy, consecrated and set apart for service." If this holiday is hallowed, whose service is it set apart for? The answer to that question is very easy-Lucifer's!
Lucifer is a part of the demonic godhead. Remember, everything God has, the devil has a counterfeit. Halloween is a counterfeit holy day that is dedicated to celebrating the demonic trinity of : the Luciferian Spirit (the false father); the Antichrist Spirit (the false holy spirit); and the Spirit of Belial (the false son).
The key word in discussing Halloween is "dedicated." It is dedicated to darkness and is an accursed season. During Halloween, time-released curses are always loosed. A time-released curse is a period that has been set aside to release demonic activity and to ensnare souls in great measure.
You may ask, "Doesn't God have more power than the devil?" Yes, but He has given that power to us. If we do not walk in it, we will become the devil's prey. Witchcraft works through dirty hearts and wrong spirits.
During this period demons are assigned against those who participate in the rituals and festivities. These demons are automatically drawn to the fetishes that open doors for them to come into the lives of human beings. For example, most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches.
Even the colors of Halloween (orange, brown and dark red) are dedicated. These colors are connected to the fall equinox, which is around the 20th or 21st of September each year and is sometimes called "Mabon." During this season witches are celebrating the changing of the seasons from summer to fall. They give praise to the gods for the demonic harvest. They pray to the gods of the elements (air, fire, water and earth).
Mother earth is highly celebrated during the fall demonic harvest. Witches praise mother earth by bringing her fruits, nuts and herbs. Demons are loosed during these acts of worship. When nice church folk lay out their pumpkins on the church lawn, fill their baskets with nuts and herbs, and fire up their bonfires, the demons get busy. They have no respect for the church grounds. They respect only the sacrifice and do not care if it comes from believers or non-believers.
Gathering around bonfires is a common practice in pagan worship. As I remember, the bonfires that I attended during homecoming week when I was in high school were always in the fall. I am amazed at how we ignorantly participate in pagan, occult rituals.
The gods of harvest that the witches worship during their fall festivals are the Corn King and the Harvest Lord. The devil is too stupid to understand that Jesus is the Lord of the Harvest 365 days a year. But we cannot be ignorant of the devices of the enemy. When we pray, we bind the powers of the strong men that people involved in the occult worship.
Halloween is much more than a holiday filled with fun and tricks or treats. It is a time for the gathering of evil that masquerades behind the fictitious characters of Dracula, werewolves, mummies and witches on brooms. The truth is that these demons that have been presented as scary cartoons actually exist. I have prayed for witches who are addicted to drinking blood and howling at the moon.
While the lukewarm and ignorant think of these customs as "just harmless fun," the vortexes of hell are releasing new assignments against souls. Witches take pride in laughing at the ignorance of natural men (those who ignore the spirit realm).
Decorating buildings with Halloween scenes, dressing up for parties, going door-to-door for candy, standing around bonfires and highlighting pumpkin patches are all acts rooted in entertaining familiar spirits. All these activities are demonic and have occult roots.
The word "occult" means "secret." The danger of Halloween is not in the scary things we see but in the secret, wicked, cruel activities that go on behind the scenes. These activities include:
Sex with demons
Orgies between animals and humans
Animal and human sacrifices
Sacrificing babies to shed innocent blood
Rape and molestation of adults, children and babies
Revel nights
Conjuring of demons and casting of spells
Release of "time-released" curses against the innocent and the ignorant.
Another abomination that goes on behind the scenes of Halloween is necromancy, or communication with the dead. Séances and contacting spirit guides are very popular on Halloween, so there is a lot of darkness lurking in the air.
However, Ephesians 1:19-21 speaks of the authority of the believer and the exceeding greatness of God's power in us (the same power that raised Christ from the dead). It goes on to say that that Jesus is seated in heavenly places far above all principalities, power, might, dominions and every name that is named. The good news is that because we are seated in heavenly places with Jesus, the same demonic activity that is under His feet is under our feet, too!
People who worship the devil continue to attempt to lift him up. But he has already been cast out and down! Many are blinded to this fact, but the day will come when all will know he has been defeated once and for all.
When we accept Jesus but refuse to renounce Satan and his practices, we are neither hot nor cold but lukewarm-and the Word says that God will spit us out of His mouth. The problem with lukewarm is that it attempts to mix the things of the devil with the things of God. It is God's desire that we serve Him alone.
Second Corinthians 6:15 asks the question, "And what agreement has Christ with Belial?" As believers, we need to answer that question in our hearts. We must avoid the very appearance of evil. I would not want a demon spirit to mistake me for an occult worshiper.
There is no doubt in my heart that God is not calling us to replace fall festivals and Halloween activities; rather, He wants us to utterly destroy the deeds of this season. If you or your family members have opened the door to any curses that are released during the demonic fall festivals, renounce them and repent. I already have. Then declare with me: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!"

WOW...
I mean really..... WOW! That is totally hilarious and totally scary at the same time. Sex with demons? Sacrificing babies? Cursing the candy??WOW... I am just flabbergasted (Yep.. I said "flabergasted" LOL!) that anyone could write this.. it is obviously just fear propaganda - and not even researched at all! I found it funny that while she wants to point out it's obvious roots in Pagan holidays, she mentions Mabon but makes NO reference to Samhain! I mean, if she really wanted to make a point about Halloween's "Pagan Roots" she could have at least done an internet search on the topic!
I know exactly the type of point of view she is coming from - was raised attending a Southern Baptist church with my mom. Now I'm not sure if they really bought into all of the stuff about witches in this article... but I do know that some of this is what was preached. Basically, they taught that anything that leads you away from the straight and narrow Christian path is a Lie created by the Devil and his Demons. If you follow any other religion other than theirs, it is because you have been tricked by the Devil into believing something else - and this trickery could have been avoided if you had been a more devout Christian. This is what my mom and her church believes. This kind of fear and propaganda is why I am still in the "Broom Closet", and after 10 years I still can't tell my mom that I am a Wiccan.
Here's an example - When I was 16, she found a deck of Tarot cards I had borrowed from a friend. I hadn't even used them because of fear, I had just looked at them once. She took them away, and instead of giving them back to my friend, she BURNED them, claming that they were a tool of the Devil, and if I were to give them back to my friend, I would just be allowing her to be lead astray. I would LOVE to be honest with my mother and tell her about the beauty of my Pagan beliefs, and about the healing I have helped others accomplish by giving Tarot card readings. But it would totally crush her world... she would never be able to accept it because she would just think that I am being tricked and tempted by the devil. She would never be able to see past this wall of fear that has been created by her church to see some of the beauty - or even find tolerance for - my beliefs. So, I live in secrecy when it comes to my family - but only because I really don't want to give up a functional and loving relationship with my mother.....
sorry this turned into such a long post. It just really hits close to home when I see stuff like this - because of this kind of ignorance and intolerance I am not even free to be honest with my own mother....

Welcome to WBLOG TV - TarotMom's own TV network!
WBLOG TV: The Meme
The place where unbloggable news happens and sources are never a secret. You are the creator, producer, writer and news anchor of the WBLOG nightly news. It is your job to deliver the news in your own style from your own blog.
And oh, you get to make up the news! Here's your assignment:
1. The Weather Channel: Give me your personality forecast. Are you sunny, wet, windy, or cloudy? Why? Breezy with chances of windstorms. As I breeze around my house on my boom with my magic feather-duster, there may be chances of dust sorms, followed by sunny, bright, sparkly surfaces! Don't get in my way or make a mess, my 3-year old tornado is about as much as I can keep up with!
2. The News Channel: What is the breaking news story of the day in your world? I'm going on day 12 of quitting smoking!! With a few minor melt-downs here and there, I have managed to remain pretty strong!
3. The Economic Channel: How are things on the economic front? And more importantly, do you have ideas to save the planet from financial ruin? There's only 13 days left before school starts and I haven't even bought ANY school supplies yet! But I'm not worried - I've been putting aside between 10 and 20 dollars from every waitressing shift I had this past month, plus I've got a jar of change on my dresser! Not sure what this has added up to, but it' there! My advice? Even if all you can put aside is $10 a week, do it!! Don' worry about HOW you will pay that bill, but simply trust that you WILL be able to pay it! Staying positive about prosperity can make a HUGE difference in your life!!
4. The Entertainment Channel: Give us the latest blog celebrity gossip. Dish it!
LadyHightower was seen dancing under the almost-full moon last night. She tried to blame her madness on the Queen's challenging meme, but we know that she's just cool like that.
5. The Sports Channel: Make up a sport, give your team a name and choose five players from the list of names on the Mr. Linky list. What are the rules of the game? I'm not very sporty, and I'm drawing a blank. Since it's MY tv station, I'll cheat. The game is Quidditch. (Harry Potter) Jean-Luc Picard is the Seeker because I'm sure he' pretty good at flying! Mimi is the Keeper (keeping the other team from scoring) Bud Weiser and twistedsister are the Beaters because, well, their names sound tough! Bring your broomsticks to practice after Divination class!!
6. The Comedy Channel: How will you make us laugh today? Tell us a blunny (that's blog + funny for all you non-blog speakers) All my jokes are in poor taste or X rated. Since my comedy channel is on basic cable and not blocked from younger viewers, here is my 10 year old Daughter to tell her favorite joke;
"Why didn't the skeleton cross the road?
Because he has no Guts!"
7. The Religious Channel: Make up a blog religion. Tell us why your blog church will save our souls. I would like viewers of ALL religions to stop in and get a Tarot reading. The cards are on-denominational, and I think that no matter what Religion you are, good advice and a little divination can be great medicine! If you've never had a reading, try it! Don't let fear, shame, or religious Dogmas scare you away! I don't want to ave your soul. Only YOU can save your soul! But sometimes the insights or advice from the cards can help guide you along the way!! oookkk, I'll get off my soap-box now.....
8. (but who's counting?) The Soap Opera Channel: What is the name of your soap opera?
Soap Operas are BANNED from my TV Stations and Networks. They are pure evil! You should be cleaning your house, reading a book, playing with your kids or pets, going outside, shopping, going to work, blogging, or getting a Tarot reading! Sheessh how many channels do you need???

How Not To Act in a Restraunt - Being Seated
Customers at the restaurant where I work are spoiled.
I mean, we pride our business on good customer service, and we try to give our customers what they want to keep them happy. It's a local, family-run business and we have lots of "regulars" who come in on a frequent basis. But still, I am often surprised at what these customers have come to expect and how they treat some of the employees.
When you go out to eat, you probably don't give a second thought to the hostess and where you are seated. If you go somewhere often you probably have a certain section you like to sit in, but are you really going to go out of your way to sit there? And do you really expect he host/hostess to know where you want to sit? Or - would you go as far as to be rude to the hostess in order to get what you want?
Here's an example;
Me; " Hi! Welcome to _____________. How many tonite?
them; "Two"
Me; "Would you prefer a booth or a table?"
them; "Booth"
me; "Okay, right this way please."
them, following me, then stopping and hollering after me; "NO! I'm not going to sit there."
me; "err.... okay. Would you prefer a table?"
them; "NO. I just don't want to sit there.... How about over there?"... (pointing to the opposite side of the restaurant.)
me, trying to restrain myself and keep smiling; "Okay, sure. Lead the way."
I mean, what's the point of having a hostess if you're going to pick your own seat? Do you not realize why we are even here?
If you have children I ask if you need a highchair and will take you to an accommodating section.
If you are handicapped I will seat you somewhere accessible and close to the door.
If you request a certain waitress or section upon entering, I will be more than happy to accommodate you.
But other than that, I am going to follow the seating chart. The Host/Hostess job is to make sure that all the servers are being seated equally. If one server gets 3 tables at once while the others each have 1, it is not fair to any of them. So, aside from taking the customers to their seats and providing them with menus and telling them the specials, it is also my job to keep the servers happy. Did you think I was seating you near the corner because I was picking on you? Or, I'm sorry, was I supposed to KNOW that you would prefer a window seat. You didn't say that when I was asking you if you wanted a table or a booth. Believe it or not, I can't tell if you have poor eyesight, claustrophobia, or a bad back unless you tell me.
So, now that you have asked to sit somewhere other than where I was going to take you, the other customers up front are waiting patiently for a hostess to seat them while you choose your seat. The waitress in whose section you are seating yourself just got a table 5 minutes ago and is still serving them, have fun waiting for service. Meanwhile, I have to go back to the front, make adjustments to the seating chart to show what has happened, seat the next customer, and hope the waitresses don't come up to me snarling and asking why I am not seating people in the proper order. And you wondered why I seemed to have to pull that smile out of my ass. If you had just requested a certain area in the first place we could have avoided the detour, and I wouldn't have had to hold back any snark in the first place.
I am sorry. I just really had to get that off my chest. Because it happens on a regular basis. Sometimes people are downright mean, or really rude. Other times I think they are not so rude, but still it can be annoying because they just want to seat wherever. I mean, if you could just sit wherever, we wouldn't have a hostess, now would we?
Please, remember to be respectful of all your service providers in life. We're mostly over-worked and under-paid; there's high chance that we might just go postal on you one of these days. * wink-wink*

My Sister's Keeper
Okay, it is time. I have been holding this in all night and day, and I have to let it out! I will do this in two parts; Book Review and Movie Review.
"My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Piccolt
I loved this book. Yes, it was a tear jerker. The author does a really great job of tackling some hard subjects; Childhood Cancer, family problems, making choices as parents, and dealing with the concepts of children's rights. The characters are believeable and each has a voice throughout the book - you can actually see all points of view and decide for yourself what you want to make of it. The underlying story is one of love and how we make sacrifices for others, and when to know and accept that we have sacrificed all we can. I read this book earlier this year and it has become one of my favorites, I reccomend it to anyone who likes to read. Even though it is not the type of book I normally read, I was really suprised by it, and it has helped me try to broaden my horizons when it comes to what type of books I will read.
Now, the movie.....
Last night (Sunday) I went to see the movie with some friends. Of the 5 of us, 3 of us had read the book, and we had high expectations. We left the theater extremelly dissapointed, and yes, even pissed off!!!
I know that many movies have to leave things out, so I was expecting it to be not exactly as the book. There is only so much you can do in translation of book to film. (Example; Twilight ) BUT, this movie went beyond the acceptable "leaving things out" - to the point that I don't think ANYONE who has read the book will leave this movie feeling good about it. Here is my official list of complaints;
#1 - they left out a main character!!! The woman who was assigned by the courts as the Gaurdian AdLitem had a huge role in the book, and she is NOT EVEN IN THE MOVIE!
# 2 - There was an important side story with the Gaurdian AdLitem and the Lawyer, Campbell. Of course, without one character, you pretty much have to leave that out. But this also leaves the character of the Lawyer quite unfulfilled and lacking in substance through the movie. You don't get to know him at all.
#3 - there were also important things going on with the brother in the book; and they totally left that stuff out as well. I stated before I can understand when they leave things out, but these events were groundshaking and shaped the family dynamic in a strong way - how can you leave that out???
#4 - this is the BIG ONE. The Ending is wrong. I mean, they have the absoluter wrong ending, the book did not end anywhere close to the way they ended the movie, and the whole point of the book was lost by changing the ending. Not only was the ending of the movie predictable and anti-climactic, but that is NOT THE WAY IT ENDED!!
AAARRRGGHHHHHHH!!!! (screaming & pulling out my hair)
Okay. My opinion has been stated. If you plan on reading the book, Read it!! It is well worth it!! But save yourself the pain of dissapointment and DON'T see the movie if you read the book!! Just forget they ever made a movie and savor the book for what it is!!
If you don't plan on reading the book; go ahead and see the movie, but know that you are missing the main point. Or if you want to, see the movie first and then read the book; if you are prepared to let go of all preconceived notions created by the movie before you read the book. Whatever. Just don't come telling me you liked the movie, unless you think you can survive my sacrastic wrath......

Celebrity Deaths
Well, it is said that deaths usually happen in 3's . This week we have had three major celebrity deaths, shocking the airwaves and cluttering up the Twitter and FaceBook world. First there was Ed McMahon - many of us grew up with him on tv, and hoped that someday he would come knock on our door with a huge check for a million dollars. His presence in TV land will be missed. Then, this morning we found out about Farrah Fawcet. Amazing actress and sex symbol of the 70's and 80's. She will not only be remembered for her amazing hair, but for her strength and positivity during her struggle with cancer. Then there is Michael Jackson who died of a heart attack this afternoon at the age of 50. His music influenced a whole generation, and although his life was controversial and strange, he should be remembered as a revolutionary pop-artist and musician, and let's not forget his dance skillz!!
I know that not everyone is a fan of Michael and his music, especially in lieu of all his escapades and shennanigans that have been aired over the media in the past. His strange mansion full of exotic animals, his strange appearance and behavior, and the allegations against him as a pedophile. You certainly didn't catch me praising him over the past few years, and I definatley had my opinions about him as well. But something caught my attenton today. During the buzz about his death, people are still trash-talking!! Seriously, what is wrong with you people? I am not saying we should forgive him of all his transgressions, but let it go!! The man is dead, he died tragically and suddenly at the young age of 50!! Let's celebrate the good memories that we have, the good music that we have, and let him Rest In Peace!! His family is grieving, and I have heard people say; "Well, he got what was coming to him", and "Was it drugs?" and "He was an evil man, I hope he died in a humiliating way, like on the toilet." (yes, I really heard someone say that.) I mean, would you say that if it was a family member, even if that family member was a horrible person? No, you would try to find something nice to say in their memory. Just because someone is a celebrity and has had their life aired out for all to see does not mean that they "deserved to die" any more than the next person, and it certainly doesn't mean that they deserve any less respect in death. When you say "R.I.P." on your facebook page, do you mean it? Can you actually let them Rest In Peace and resist the urge to spit on thier grave?
